Belmond Mount Nelson

‘a sense of occasion’

The landmark pink lady, aka The Nellie, is where since 1899, people have donned their Sunday best (gloves and hats) to celebrate high days and holidays with superb cuisine. Executive chef Rudi Liebenberg, with sous chef Dion Ventagass, has created a yesteryear experience when dinner was a dignified affair and connecting over a meal meant taking the time to enjoy the setting, the people and the food.

The Sherwood Room of the Belmond Mount Nelson was the hotel’s original dining room, and it was here that Queen Elizabeth hosted a cocktail reception to celebrate her 21st birthday in April 1947. White linen, candles, flowers and a pianist create a romantic ambience in the beautiful room. Tableside service of classics like Beef Wellington, Caesar salad and steak tartare, transport discerning diners to another era. Fine, refined dining with old-fashioned charm that appeals to Capetonians and visitors alike. “We are re-creating and elevating the classics.”
