Fancourt is perfectly positioned to explore the Garden Route, a celebrated coastal drive that National Geographic described as ‘the road trip that will break your Instagram’!

At Fancourt’s relaunched classical dining restaurant, Henry White’s, it’s all about celebrating regional cuisine. Located in the estate’s Manor House, home of the original owner Henry Fancourt White, the restaurant décor juxtaposes modern with heritage. The soft greens and leafy wallpaper make it a relaxed setting, but there is a touch of classic glamour, with white tablecloths.

The menu reflects sous chef Ewald Schulenburg’s attitude towards a more informal fine dining style as well as his commitment to his South African identity. The menu showcases the region’s finest ingredients – from herbs picked in the Fancourt gardens to strawberries from a farm in George, and Karoo lamb. It’s a ‘prix fixe’ four-course seasonal menu which changes monthly. Look out for Ewald’s chilled yoghurt summer soup, a refreshing blend of four ingredients served with crunchy toasted walnuts and fruit. You’ll find other zesty surprises, like his West Coast sole paupiette au gratin served with a pea and cauliflower purée, sautéed courgettes and his ‘secret family recipe’ sweet chilli and tomato relish. The small menu is light and healthy, with options for vegetarians.

“I want the experience to be a ‘flavour journey’. Our promise is to support local suppliers and to source the freshest products from the area.” Sous chef Ewald Schulenburg
